A small site with minimal data collection.
Privacy-preserving aggregate counters help me understand the site as a whole. Google Analytics remains optional and is enabled only after you accept it.
Who is responsible
This is the personal site of Carlo Caprini, based in Italy. Questions about this notice or the data described here can be sent through the LinkedIn contact shown on the site.
Optional analytics
Google Analytics 4 is used to understand which pages, notes and editorial paths are useful. It may receive the page visited, interactions with the site, device and browser information, and an approximate location derived from network information.
Analytics is disabled by default. The Google Analytics script is not loaded and Analytics cookies are not created unless you select “Accept analytics”. The legal basis for this optional processing is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time through “Cookie settings” in the footer.
Advertising signals and ad personalisation are disabled. Analytics event data is intended to be retained for no longer than 14 months.
Aggregate site measurement
The site also counts page views and selected editorial transitions without cookies, persistent user or device identifiers, sessions, precise timestamps or stored raw events. The browser sends only fixed page and content identifiers from this site. The service turns each accepted request directly into a daily aggregate counter.
When a link to the site contains the complete campaign tags defined by the site’s distribution convention, the service may also count the landing page together with fixed source, medium, editorial initiative and public distribution-format labels. It does not collect the complete URL, free-form campaign values, recipient identifiers or advertising click identifiers. Campaign information is not saved in the browser or carried into later pages.
This measurement runs independently of the optional Google Analytics choice. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in understanding the overall use and effectiveness of this single website through strictly minimised aggregate statistics. It is not used to identify visitors, build profiles or follow activity across sites.
Cloudflare provides the Worker and D1 infrastructure used to receive, validate and aggregate these requests. As the network and infrastructure provider, Cloudflare necessarily processes technical request information needed to deliver and protect the service. The measurement application does not read or store IP addresses, user agents or request bodies in D1; it stores only the resulting daily counters. Daily counters are retained for up to 14 months.
Cookies and local storage
If analytics is accepted, Google Analytics may create _ga and _ga_<container-id> first-party cookies to distinguish visits and preserve session state. This site limits their lifetime to 13 months and does not renew that period on every page load.
The consent choice itself is stored for up to six months in the browser’s local storage under site_analytics_consent. It is necessary to remember whether analytics should remain enabled or disabled and is not used for tracking.
External services
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may process technical request data required to deliver and protect the service. Cloudflare provides the aggregate measurement endpoint and database. The Inter typeface is served directly with the site. External links, including LinkedIn and selected readings, are governed by the privacy practices of their respective providers.
For more information, see the GitHub Privacy Statement, Cloudflare Privacy Policy and Google Privacy Policy.
Your choices
You can reject optional Google Analytics without losing any site functionality. You can also reopen the consent controls from the footer and change your choice. Withdrawing consent stops future Google Analytics collection on this site and removes the Analytics cookies accessible to it. It does not disable the privacy-preserving daily aggregate counters described above.
You may request access, correction or deletion of personal data where applicable, or contact the Italian data protection authority.
